Power From Pain

The tantalizing taste of fear lingered in the air as blood dripped from the wicked blades of the warrior. The warrior leaned in close to the dying man. “Your suffering is most exquisite Mon-keigh“, with a throaty laugh, the lithe warrior garbed in armor of midnight black, drove his serrated blade into the man’s chest.

With a snort, the warrior drew in the escaping soul essence, enriched with pain and despair, it was most potent in its powers. Shivering with pleasure, the lithe warrior traced the blood trail he had made, into a hall. With eyes sharpened by the intoxicating pain of the man, he surveyed the room with nerves afire.

Come out little one, I know you are here“. The soft inhalation of breath caught his heighten senses. “Yesssss” The warrior uttered in a low sibilant voice. “Yesss, little one, hide… Your terror will be all the more sweeter when I find you. I shall flense the flesh from your bones, and your screams shall invigorate me. There is much power from pain, and your pain will be most delightful to me

Pain, suffering, anger. They are all emotions and feelings one would consider negative, destructive even. To me, they are a source of power, a source of inspiration, there is no language more universal then pain and suffering. The aching within your breast, the impotent rage that fills your lungs, the debilitating despair that drive grown men and women to their knees, such is the power of pain.

Most of my poetry are written in states of heightened emotions, negative emotions, and into my works I channel them. I thread a fine line however, as it is so easy to be consumed by such emotions, I channel the destructive potential of such feelings into something constructive, a message, a plea perhaps and maybe even a warning. Such is the power of pain that even the best of us will still fall prey to its influence. As Yoda once said “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering ”

Thread lightly my friends, though suffering can be a powerful creative force, it is all too easy to be consumed by it.

Ultramarines: The Movie

I have finally been able to catch Ultramarines, a Warhammer 40k movie that had been in the works for some time. All I can really say is, I’m disappointed. The storyline was weak, the dialogue was weak and the action did not invoke the “O-M-F-G EPIC!” reaction that it should have. Perhaps I’m too harsh but I’m left with this feeling, it is like an unsatisfying meal, you know it wasn’t filling but you don’t really feel like eating more.

Whereas the movie itself lacked good storyline, the Ultramarines lacked common sense. Sending 12 Ultramarines into an area where a hundred Imperial Fist Space Marines could not be contacted is just plain dumb, it is only logical to think that something happened to the garrison and that something must be substantial to even dream of taking on 100 Space Marines.

That is not the end of it, oh no, the movie even go as far as having a Chaplain Psyker, by the Golden Throne! How does that even work? I know of Psykers, especially those from the Ordos Hereticus, who can channel the powers of the Emperor to smite heretics but a Chaplain Psyker is unheard of! It is heresy!

Well, the graphics for Ultramarines is passable, nothing special, was rather cartoon y at times. Would have worked for a video game but as a movie, expected more. Here are the scores.

The Rose

A poem I did a long time ago. Inspired by Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came

The Rose

I

Lightning piercing dark black clouds

Chaos, anarchy and fear abound

The end has come for all but few

The weight of the world is all I feel

II

The quest for the rose is not for naught

Trudging on though Childe I am not

Sword, Shield and Armour I wore

I shall not fall” I swore

III

Fall thou shalt and fall thy will

A voice, disembodied, a chill

Brandish my sword to nothingness I did

The thing I killed was only time not it

IV

“Protect the rose I will, for fear I do not”

“Heed me! To go on then thou art a fool

“If death waits then conquer it I shall”

“Then go! For to the rose thou shalt fall!

V

The voice haunting, drifting, drifting, gone

Arduous my task, the life of the lone

Childe I am not, word slinger I am

The rose, the rose, how low must I go

VI

Blood, blood, blood, all in my way I slew

The rose awaits, this knowledge I knew

So close to the rose, its whisper I could hear

Doubt, fear, confusion, surfaced as I near

VII

“Thou art indeed a fool to come to the rose”

“Show thyself coward” I cried my defiance

Face my adversary I did, for the enemy was me

“Turn back, the rose is not thee’s!” cried me

VIII

Steel to steel, dust to dust and blood shalt flow

Perished my dark side was and behold the rose

The beautiful pink rose, defenses long forgotten

So long have I dreamt of it, so long so long

IX

Pain, agony, my heart, the thorns pierced my heart

To the rose thou shalt fall, and to the rose I fell

My heart was pierced, crushed, broken by the rose

No more, no more, the word slinger slain by the rose

X

Darkness, emptiness, a hollow void, nothing, nothing

Pain, pain, air! Breathe I must, breathe I did

The rain was falling, I laid amongst petals and thorns

Death conquered but the rose was gone. Petals and thorns

XI

The rain had stopped but my heart still aches

The rose, the rose, how low must I go?

Petals and thorns, petals, petals, pink petals and thorns

The word slinger to the rose came, his journey never ends

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

Panty is the Blonde, Stocking is the Goth, Garterbelt is Father Afro and the Ginger with the proton pack is Brief

The first and normal reaction when you see a title like that is “What the fuck?”. At least that was my reaction, this is not an American Saturday morning cartoon if you are wondering. This is actually an Anime if you will believe it and a brilliant and smart one at that. I must admit I have not watched any Anime in a long long time. Use to be quite the fan but things happen. I do still read manga but I guess my taste in Japanese Animation has definitely shifted. But with Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt (PSG), I must say it has kinda rekindled my interest in Anime again.

Just watching the first few episodes and I’m already a convert. You are probably wondering what makes this Anime so special other then its obvious borrowing of the American cartoon art. I guess the first thing you should know is I love it when media makes references to other media and is not afraid to go all the way. It engages the audience and expects them to be knowledgeable in pop culture and I thoroughly enjoy spotting the references. So yes, despite PSG being an exclusively Japanese Anime it pays homage to western pop culture. A pop culture I am deeply involved in and that in itself is awesome already.

Yeas, obvious homage to Invader Zim. Well to appreciate the full brilliance of PSG one must first be able to take its explicit content. The main theme of the show is about this two sisters who are angels as well. Obviously they are named Panty and Stocking. So the deal is, they having to hunt Ghosts aka monsters of the week to get… COINS. I’m not shitting you, fucking Coins. Hilarious. Of course they have to collect the coins to get back to Heaven as they were kicked out for unsavory behavior. That is to say Panty the older sister is really loose, I mean really really loose.

So you can expect loads of sexual jokes, it is quite explicit in nature which makes it all the more awesome. Some might find it tasteless but the show doesn’t take itself too seriously so you shouldn’t either. in general, the show is extremely clever in its delivery of said sexual jokes. One of my favorites spoiler alert is the reenactment of the D-Day by sperms. Brilliant. The ending of that battle is equally hilarious but I’m not gonna spoil it. But as I said, it makes references to western pop culture in like every episode. Catfight Club, Pulp Addiction, Sex and the Daten City, High School Nudical and many more. Not to mention references to the Watchmen’s Rorschach himself and even go as far as to mention a PKE meter from Ghostbusters if you do not recall.

The art style is definitely refreshing from the usual Anime characters. You get a bastard child of Invader Zim and Powerpuff Girls with the content of South Park in a more explicit and more Japanese manner what is there not to like? Having said that, the artist has not forgotten their roots with scenes showing Panty or Stocking in their full Anime glory.

PSG is definitely in one of the best Animes I have seen in a long time. Hell I would even throw it in with my favorite American cartoon comedies like Family Guy and South Park. Fair warning though, this is not for the faint hearted. Oh and I almost forgot to mention this, they create actual models of their Ghosts and then pack it with explosives and blow it up. Reminds you of the good old Power Rangers and Ultraman doesn’t it.I love this show and I definitely think it is worth checking it out.
